chicago // that toddlin' town
oh chicago...the new york of the midwest. growing up, chicago was always such a treat to go to. so when i knew i was going to be home for a little over a week, i had to make the effort to visit the windy city...for old times! and oh, how windy it was.
many of my friends from my hometown tended to move to chicago after college as a way to stay close to family in michigan so it truly was a reunion. however, my first day there, i decided to explore the town with one of my coworkers, lia, who had the week off as well! lia was my chicago guru and did not disappoint when it came to seeing the key spots on my short trip. i got up bright and early to make the drive from detroit to chicago, and with the one hour time difference, i was able to get in an hour of relaxation at my hotel before having lunch at fig and olive - which was beyond amazing! ...i mean those truffle fries were to die for!
we then walked to millennium park where the bean is located and stopped for pictures by the river. and before you ask, i wore these shoes walking around town :) because i had visited so much when i was younger and having already seen the sears tower and navy pier, i wanted a simple and easy tour...but i always seem to forget how much walking is involved.
to finish off the day, dessert was necessary. lia showed me the instagram of sweet mandy b's and my mouth started watering. upon arrival, we were greeted by the heavenly aroma of pure sugar and i spent a solid five minutes trying to figure out what to order. i decided on the simple and classic sugar cookie and it lasted me for three days! we stayed and talked, overhearing some bizarre conversations, and just enjoyed the setting.
i spent the following day with friends but none of them would have let me be as obnoxious with my camera haha so thanks lia!
