the hamptons // hampton living

after my first full week of work (as an official grown up), i got the opportunity to spend the weekend in the hamptons dogsitting for a friend. a free house in the hamptons and the cutest dog in the world -- who could pass that opportunity up!? after work on friday, i hopped on the lirr (the long island railroad for those non-new yorkers) and headed out to east hampton. i could hardly contain my excitement as this was my first time going out to the hamptons!

we were incredibly lucky when it came to the weather. perfect temperatures with scattered clouds so i never got burned (which, always makes a redhead like me happy). the house was absolutely adorable and the inside was decorated to perfection. my favorite area was the backyard, mainly because that was where the pool was. a charming white gate led to the hot tub, pool and pool house with the comfiest lounge chairs! i was also finally able to use my kate spade "reserved" beach towel that i bought on sale! i'm also really obsessed with a book that was recommended to me by my friend maddie a few years ago called crazy rich asians and i'm finally getting around to reading it! now that i have no more reading to do for school, i can actually enjoy a book of my choosing.

while staying at our friend's house, we were also given permission to drive his two cars: one of which being this amazing vintage mercedes convertible. and oh. my. gosh was it cool to drive in! i felt like an old hollywood movie star - and also because everyone was staring at it. my brother had been out to the hamptons before so he pretty much planned all of the restaurants a few weeks prior because reservations fill up quick! for breakfast we kept it casual at mary's marvelous and sat outside on the benches. our other meals included east hampton grill for dinner and the surf lodge for brunch that was in montauk 30 minutes away.

now, i may go on a little rant here but i feel that it is necessary. for dinner at east hampton grill, we were confirmed for an 8:15 reservation for 5 people. however, upon arrival we were informed that there was to be a 20-25 minute lag on the reservation time. we were, of course, a little annoyed but we moved to the patio for some pre-dinner cocktails. after about 30 minutes of waiting, we finally received our drinks and then we continued to wait until 9:45 to be seated. let me repeat that. nine fourty five. a good hour and a half past our intended seating time and far from the 25 minute estimate. needless to say, i will not be going back there (and the food was oversized and very average - and overpriced but that was expected in the hamptons).

because the entire weekend was so perfect, we loved walking through the downtown area of east hampton and going to all of the shops - basically just enjoying the hamptons lifestyle. i decided to wear my new favorite shorts from club monaco and pairing them with my tory burch sneakers; this made for a cute pairing while still being comfortable!

for my last day, we hung out at the beach and treated ourselves to lunch at the snack bar. i do have to say, whenever i go to the beach or the pool, it is always a miracle that i never get burned...even when i have spf 100 on. the sand was free of clutter and felt so good on my tired feet.

we finished off the weekend with a classic barbecue before i had to get on the train to get back in the city. now that i'm a working girl, posts are getting harder to do but i am trying my best to get into a good posting schedule so i won't leave everyone hanging for too long!

until next time east hampton -- toodles
