michigan bedroom redesign

it’s round 2 for doing a redesign with shannon (i first had her do my apartment in nyc!); and this time, it’s my bedroom at my parents house in michigan!

to give a little backstory of my parent’s house at the moment, they had a house fire two years ago and as a result they had to move out of the house that i lived most of my adolescent life in and into the house they are currently in. all of the furniture i had in my bedroom at the “fire house” was gone so they placed miscellaneous and mismatched furniture that had been salvaged into the guest bedrooms for when my brother and/or i visit.

since being back in michigan for now a month, a few weeks ago it was becoming clear that the shutdown was going to be significantly longer than expected so i wanted to take this time to give my bedroom a little refresh. i reached out to shannon and she threw together a perfect design board in just days!

mood board and inspiration

i definitely gave shannon a lot more to go off of in terms of an inspiration board than i did my apartment in nyc (i literally just gave her one inspiration picture haha!) and started pinning photos like crazy. i wanted this room to be fairly different from my apartment in order to be cohesive with my mom’s decor…after all it is her house. this meant a more neutral and calming color palette…well at least more neutral compared to my nyc apartment haha! i grabbed most of the inspiration from pinterest and immediately was drawn to the soft greens and deep blues paired with the mustard yellow and dusty pink accents. i collected my images and sent them over in a mood board for shannon to work her magic!

the current space

as i mentioned earlier, because of my parent’s house fire, a lot of the furniture in this room is mismatched and thrown together so shannon really had a clean palette to work with…and please excuse that these before photos are not immaculate haha!

the design

this time around - in an effort to be efficient and save a little bit of money - i only had shannon do one draft (instead of her usual 2 for e-design) because she knows my style now and i knew she would knock it out of the park…which, spoiler…….she did! after sending her the mood board, pictures of the space, and measurements, she sent me my deck the next week! it didn’t take me long for me to know it was absolutely perfection!

now the hardest part of it all is waiting. so far the marble accent table and mirror have come in and i’m just waiting for everything else to arrive! most things that shannon selected had a fairly short lead time except the nightstands and bed. those two may arrive after i leave (if i ever do) but i will keep you all posted on the process of everything!
