my journey to the dc cherry blossoms

if you’ve been following me from the very beginning, you may know i went to school at the george washington university in washington, dc and every year the unofficial start to the spring season was without a doubt the annual cherry blossom festival. all over dc cherry blossoms would bloom at the end of march-early april but there was no sight like seeing all of them bloom around the tidal basin - it is truly something out of a painting! since i started my blog back in 2015, i had been able to photograph once at the blossoms but then, of course, had to move to nyc after graduation. i no longer had the easy accessibility to my favorite (and very time-sensitive) trees that i once had but i still figured that i would hop on down whenever they were to peak.

a series of unfortunate events

these past two weeks i have had incredible things planned! i was able to persuade amanda to book a last minute trip to los angeles with me and we literally had the best time (aside from the fact that i ripped my favorite blouse #stillbitter)! we were exhausted because we shot from sunrise to sunset every day but more on all of that content later. unfortunately though, the past few days i have just been dealing with a string of bad luck and it’s put a damper on my attitude. from travel mishaps to technical issues, i’ve just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry…in fact i did that this afternoon on the phone with my mom in the back of an uber. that definitely killed my uber rating haha.

the discouraging side of having a "small" instagram following

in today’s social media age, people are seemingly defined by their follower count. as of this week, i have around 25k followers and while that may seem like a lot to some people, my following pales in comparison to my peers…especially those in nyc. to be honest, it gets incredibly frustrating and often discouraging regardless of how hard i try not to play the comparison game. the loop giveaways are running rampant and there doesn’t seem to be any slowing down of people trying to take shortcuts. i was even told once that it was “cute” how i’ve kept my small following simply because i didn’t participate in that rubbish (sorry i’ve been watching mary poppins returns and now i think i’m british). i had a “wait, what?!?” moment haha! but what real impact does this have on me? it really comes down to brands and partnerships.

a walk on park

springtime in new york is truly one of my favorite times of the year! ...you know, aside from fall and christmas ;) but one ues tradition that i never fail to miss are the park avenue tulips! every year the city plants a different color to make the walk up and down park avenue a little more scenic and i'm so happy they chose red this year! naturally i decided to wear my favorite spring print in celebration of the turn of the season: gingham! be prepared to see a plethora of it again this year!

lilac to me

spring is here! so bring on all of the flowy dresses and handbags filled with flowers! this is truly one of my favorite times of the year because the flowers and trees are starting to come back to life and the unbearable heat hasn't quite hit yet. when julia engel released her stunning line of dresses, i knew i was going to be obsessed from the start! from her first month's collection, i purchased six dresses...yes six! while my intention was to overbuy to scope out the collection and then later return, i ended up keeping almost all of them. but out of all the dresses, this one had to have been my favorite. aside from the color, the fabric felt the highest quality of the ones i ordered and i just felt like maria von trapp in it! so overall it was a win! i cannot wait to see what she keeps putting out every month!

come sail away

if you have been following along on my instastories, it has been quite the adventurous few weeks for me. i began my roughly two week long trip with a family wedding in puerto vallarta, mexico. but while i may have absolutely loved the outfit that i was going to wear to the ceremony, i knew i wanted to be sure to exclude any blogging or photography (aside from iphone photos of course) during those days with my family. mostly because my parents may be used to my blogging ridiculousness, but my extended family definitely isn't...and i didn't think this was the opportunity to expose them to that side of me haha! but about a month ago, i saw this beyond incredible dress on karen of where did u get that and needed it immediately knowing it would be perfect for this beachside wedding. knowing i wasn't going to be shooting this in mexico, i decided to get a jump start and use this dress as an excuse to do my favorite springtime activity: rowing boats in central park! and i'm especially thankful to lydia because just days earlier she witnessed someone fall in the lake trying to take a photo...needless to say she was scarred and i offered that we used my equipment this day!

colors of the wind

to give a little back story on this post, a few years ago, i saw the stunning rach parcell visit the dreamiest of tulip fields. as much as i would have loved to hop on a plane and jet off to washington state, back then, i would never have been able to justify flying to the other side of the country to visit a field of flowers. but now? it's a whole different story. thankfully i was able to persuade dana to come along with me just a few weeks before the skagit valley tulip festival began and what seemed like only days later, we were on our way to seattle! we arrived to the rainy city tired after our 6am flight but this meant we had the whole day to explore downtown. we dropped our bags off at our hotel and headed to the typical seattle hotspots (but more on that later).

blast from the past

i mean...vintage cars...do i really need to say more? the last time andrea was in charleston, she had such a fun shoot with a vintage convertible and i'm not afraid to say that i had a little fomo! so i persuaded andrea to do it all over again...but this time with yours truly. duh! we were so lucky to partner with low country valet to use "aida" for our shoot. we had so much fun pretending that it was our own and i had a hard time giving it back! with all of the original interior, i truly felt as if i had been transported back in time...and my vintage car dress definitely helped set the mood. with the perfect setting of charleston behind us, we couldn't have asked for a more picturesque scene!

pastel me more

hello charleston: the perfect spring getaway from the cold and dreary new york city...the sun was desperately needed! in contrast to the last time i was in charleston a few years ago in august, this time the head and humidity were far from extreme and i wasn't in a hurry to race home to nyc! as a result of the aggressive weather, i wasn't really a fan of any of my photos. so like my trip to paris, i was eager to get back to the charming city to redo the photos. for this time around, i took my time strolling the streets and taking in the scenery. everywhere i turned, there were colorful corners that belonged in a magazine and it was a plethora of pastel perfection!

check it out

i think it goes without saying that i adapted to southern living (and dressing) with ease and i knew that my suitcase wouldn't have been complete without a plethora of gingham! i purchased this gingham top months ago in anticipation of some warmer days and i was so excited to finally wear it in savannah! i loved pairing it with it's gingham mansur partner-in-crime and this stunning floral skirt to complete the perfect southern belle look! now if we could just tackle the heat and humidity in the south in the summer and then i would actually live there full-time!

orange is the new black

oh savannah! your picturesque streets were seemingly never-ending and i could have walked them for hours...and i basically did! we fueled up for our only full-day with the most incredible brunch at collins quarter before heading out on our adventures. and because ashley is no stranger to savannah (she lives just a couple hours away!), she knew all of the perfect spots and corners for me to imagine myself living there. but if it wasn't for the raging summer heat and humidity, i would have packed up and moved that instant! thankfully i had the comfiest dress to strut around town in and it kept me cool all day long! our day was filled wandering the streets of historic savannah and worked up an appetite for dinner at pacci right before our ghost tour that night! oh yeah, and speaking of ghost tour, i had no idea how haunted this town was! i'm just thankful we didn't go on one on our first night! but spoiler alert: i made it through my last spooky night before i bolted out of there the next day!

draw the line

after two amazing but very cold trips (woodstock and kennebunkport) i was desperately in the market for some sun! so ashley, emily and i decided to head over to the cutest southern town that has been on my bucket list for as long as i can remember: savannah! while packing i knew i just needed an explosion of color and prints to really jump both feet into southern weather so this wrap skirt was one of the first pieces thrown into the suitcase. this winter has been never ending so it was incredibly refreshing to not have to wear my coat...even though i brought it just in case it got cold later in the evening! spoiler alert: it didn't. stay tuned for more posts from my trip to the south!

i present to you...

after participating in new york's fashion week for a few seasons now, the glitz, glamour, and allure have worn off just slightly. but that doesn't mean i don't get giddy seeing new and fabulous designs come down the runway! this season, i had the amazing opportunity to attend the kate spade presentation and it's safe to say having worked for the company on and off since 2012 (and only recently leaving in october) it was literally a dream come true! i had never attended the presentation before and was like a kid in a candy store walking in. but attending my first kate spade presentation, i couldn't show up in just anything! i originally had planned on wearing this dress but after trying it on, it was just a little too much for me. so i opted for this fun shirtdress that was beyond comfortable! which came in handy because in addition to being in front of the camera for part of the day, i had to wear it behind the camera as well!

concrete jungle

new york city can be a jungle...just minus any of the actual greenery. so i often resort to adding some green to the concrete with a fabulous print! this "jardin" print from kate spade's may collection jumped out at me as soon as i saw it - and i'm not going to lie, i basically wear this dress every day to work! the fun pops of color (can you see the little humming birds on the print too?) paired with the lace detail create the perfect spring dress to help me conquer the wilderness!

yellow gingham road

gingham is back baby, and i couldn't be more excited! it has been too long since i've worn my favorite spring and summer print and am so relieved that it is becoming a staple in my wardrobe. but what isn't a staple in my wardrobe is the color yellow...i know. i honestly can't tell you the last time i owned something in that color! i just have never thought it looked good with my skin tone so i would continue to bypass yellow when shopping. however, in the spirit of spring, i figured i had to give this pastel-perfect dress a shot! needless to say i was not disappointed.
