colors of cape town

we saved the best for last for the final stop on our african getaway: cape town! once we arrived to our hotel (although i wanted to stay here but they were completely sold out), i was so happy to finally have stable access to air conditioning, plumbing, and wi-fi! i unpacked all of my things immediately when we got to our room and my family and i started planning out our agenda. my brother and i went down to the concierge prepared with a list of dinner recommendations from our friends but little did we know that the weekend before new year’s eve was going to be one of cape town’s busiest! oopsies! so instead of dinner at places like the pot luck club and the test kitchen, we kind of just got whatever was available…and there weren’t many options.

the way to zimbabwe

holy crap, that was such an incredible fashion week here in nyc! but now that it’s over, i can finally get back to sharing more details about my africa trip! and even though it’s valentine’s day…i won’t be doing a post with pizza, chocolate, and an excessive amount of heart balloons becauseeeee #single.

i left off on my africa trip with the first two posts from the safari in botswana: one sharing all of the details and the second being a photo diary of the safari! in the first post, i briefly mentioned details about our journey to the next stop on our african adventure, victoria falls in zimbabwe, and how it involved an hour and a half flight on a tiny propeller plane right to the border of zimbabwe, and then we had an almost 2 hour drive across the border to victoria falls. it was a lot. oh yeah, and once we got to the national park where our hotel was, we then had to take a 20 minute boat ride on the zambezi river to get to the actual hotel. but once i was able to sit on the couch in the lobby and get the wifi password, i was very happy.

my african safari photo diary

i know that during one of my posts last week, i mentioned that one of my intentions for this year is to write more on the blog. but with the plethora of photos from the safari alone, i knew i needed to dedicate a post entirely for the photos. for more of the details regarding the actual safari i went on discussing everything from packing to preparation, head to monday’s post here! for ease, i decided to break breakdown the photos into two sections starting with all of the outfit photos and then ending with the wildlife photos!

surfin' safari: everything you need to know about going on a safari

happy monday everyone!

i am so excited to finally be able to sit down and share all of the details of my trip to africa back in december! while this wasn’t my first time in africa (or going on a safari), it was my first time going as a photographer and/or blogger or even being slightly prepared for what was to come. the last time i went to africa was when i was in high school when my parents and i went to malawi for a mission trip and then onto a nearby safari with an ending in zambia. we went during august so the weather was tolerable but still hot during the day. and don’t even let me get started on my atrocious packing job! back in 2010, pinterest just started but it wasn’t really a “thing” yet, so i really didn’t have any resources to figure out what to wear. as a result, i basically packed nike shorts and t-shirts and felt so out of place. this time around, it was my chance to redo it all, and redo it right!

stowe away

last month, dana and i decided we needed a heavy dose of fall foliage so we packed up the car and made the five and a half hour drive to the land of foliage: vermont! while i am no stranger to vermont, as i’ve been a few times and most recently to woodstock with andrea last winter, this was my first time to stowe. dana and i had the honor of staying at field guide for a night, which was one of the cutest hotels in the area!

when in rome

when in rome...one must always rent a cute vespa, wear a matching vespa dress, and ride around the colosseum like the tourist you are! around two months before i left for rome, i stumbled upon this obnoxiously adorable vespa-printed dress and immediately sent it to ashley...as i was so impressed with my find! she then quickly informed me that she, too, had purchased the dress haha! so it was fate that we wore them together for this day! we did though get a few looks when we walked into the vespa rental place.....

a roman holiday

after an absurd amount of procrastination, my favorite post from my tour of italy is here! of all of the 5:30am shoots, our morning at the colosseum will not compare to any other one. upon arrival, everything was going according to plan: our inspo photos in hand and my camera ready to go. ashley and i, of course, had to get the stereotypical blogger shot on the ledge and we continued taking photos around that area, but the magic didn't officially set in until we went down and around the historic roman landmark.

line it up

as evident from my last post, light linen dresses are my go-to pieces for this season. and when i was packing for my trip to rome, i realized i needed a one more dress that i could just throw on without thinking! i thankfully found this dress that is under $100 that was so comfy i nearly bought it in the other color too! i threw on my favorite prada hat and i was ready to eat all of the pasta my stomach could allow!

check mate

many times after ashley and i had our early morning shoots, we would head back to the hotel, stuff our faces with breakfast, change, and then go out for more photos...all before 8am. did i mention we were pro travelers? haha! but this morning we had intended on just shooting in piazza navona (seen in the last picture) but we kept getting distracted by the cutest little streets on the way and surrounding the piazza. and while it may always be nice to have some sort of plan while traveling, my favorite moments are the ones we improvise!

roses in rome

with a sharp contrast to the last post on prêt-à-provost where ashley and i leisurely went to the spanish steps during the middle of the day and there were swarms of people everywhere, this 5:30am call time gave us all the time to truly enjoy this tourist hotspot all to ourselves! well that was until the three guys who were still out from the night before left from the top of the steps...

rome-ing around

whenever i go to a city, especially as a blogger, it's inevitable that i have to hit up the big ticket stops (like here and here) but there is nothing i love more than just exploring some of the main touristy areas at our own leisure. ashley and i started off our morning around the ruins around palatine hill and while we may have gotten there relatively early at 9am, compared to our other early morning wake up calls, this was a welcomed change!

all in a day's work

visiting the amalfi coast was everything i wanted it to be and then some. so on our last day in paradise, ashley and i wanted to do a day trip to visit every remaining inch of the coast. ashley had arranged a car to pick us up from our hotel in sorrento at the crack of dawn to begin our drive along the famous "blue ribbon" road. earlier in the trip, during our stay in positano, the wind was so strong that the picturesque umbrellas on the beach had to stay closed...so as we were driving past positano, i may or may not have had the car pull over so we could hike down to get "the shot." but hey, do it for the instagram right!? after we got the shot and hiked back up the 10,000 steps (ashley really loved me at this point) we continued up the road and stopped at the most famous fruit stand where we discovered our driver and the fruit stand owner were great friends haha!

orange you glad i didn't say lemon?

when in the amalfi coast, it is mandatory that lemons are incorporated in some way. thankfully ashley found a garden of lemons in sorrento and i got a little excited. obviously i had the perfect dress that had not only lemons on it but oranges! ...lemons citrus cousin haha! located in the back of a limoncello shop just down the street from our hotel, it was the perfect hidden gem!

you, me, capri

during the planning process of this trip, ashley and i knew a pitstop in capri was a must! after spending our last morning in positano exploring and eating gelato, we took the last ferry of the day over to capri to spend the night. we arrived just in time for golden our so we were able to get a few pictures in our completely ridiculous dolce and gabbana inspired looks! but you know what they say, when in capri, look like a dolce and gabbana ad threw up on you...don't forget to check out ashley in her coordinating outfit!

planes, and trains, and cars, oh my!

coming off of one of the longest travel days i've ever had in my life, arriving in positano was like arriving to the promise land...i had finally made it! but getting there was no easy feat. after my short 18-hours in mexico city, i hopped on a plane and headed to atlanta. after going through customs, i got on another international flight and this time to rome. from the rome airport, i had to take a train to the rome train station where i had to transfer to another train to get to the naples train station. when i arrived to the naples train station, i had a car pick me up and make the windy one and a half hour journey to the stunning positano to meet up with ashley! all in all it was a 24 hour travel day...i was exhausted! but there was no time to waste because ashley and i had a very tight schedule to keep.
